Northern Counties Clog Dancing Championships
Open Competition Rules
Any style may be danced. Clogs must be worn and traditional costume is preferred in all competitions except the Group Sections. One musician only is allowed, except in the Group Sections and Open Waltz Solo. Up to three musicians or taped music with any time signature may be used in the Group Sections but a competitor may only dance in one Group dance. Up to three musicians or taped music may be used in the Waltz section.
The Under 8's Section require five complete hornpipe steps whilst the Under 12's, 12 to 15 years, Novices & Pedestal Sections require six complete hornpipe steps plus a separate double shuffle off the toe. In the Open Waltz Section, ten half steps, not repeated, are required. The Novices' Section is not open to anyone previously placed 1st in any competition. Winners will receive a trophy which will remain the property of 'the Event', & the winners and runners-up will also receive a trophy & a medal to keep. Winners and runners-up in the Group Sections will receive medals. All competitors in the Children's Sections will receive a souvenir medal.

The winner will receive the Championship Belt which will remain the property of 'the Event'. The winner & two runners-up will also receive trophies and medals. In accordance with tradition, anyone who wins on three consecutive occasions will receive a special belt to commemorate the achievement. Competitors are allowed only one musician & must dance to a clog hornpipe.
